The Real Property Institute of Canada (RPIC) is pleased to invite you to its first National Workshop on marine infrastructure, which will be held in the beautiful and historic city of Montreal from January 28 to 29, 2014.

Canada has a rich maritime history and is bordered by three oceans, transected by dozens of rivers and interspersed by thousands of inland lakes. Marine infrastructures, whether public or private, are spread across the country and are located in very diverse geographical and climatic environments. These assets are fundamental for many economic activities and are, in some cases, a source of national sovereignty and a vital communication link between some communities and the rest of the country. Whether it's a cruise terminal in Nova Scotia, a fishing harbour in Newfoundland, a ferry installation in Quebec, a commercial port in Ontario, a recreational facility in Alberta or a naval base in British Columbia, the ultimate goal is common for all of those responsible for these assets: build and maintain safe and durable core facilities.

The 2014 RPIC Marine Infrastructure National Workshop offers a unique opportunity for networking, collaboration and exchanges between marine infrastructure custodians, marine field professionals, academic researchers, as well as companies specialized in the construction of marine structures. This is an opportunity to better understand the operating frameworks and the challenges facing many national marine programs and assess the national situation and issues related to marine expertise, whether in terms of engineering and knowledge or with respect to marine construction capacities.

The Workshop will be held over a period of two days. The first day will be devoted to marine programs, policies and applicable legal frameworks with presentations from federal and provincial government representatives, as well as other marine assets custodians. The second day will present an overview of the state of the service market available, while addressing the national situation in research and innovation. The Workshop will be wrapped-up with a panel discussion where participants will be encouraged to identify common opportunities for integration between different stakeholders and activities to strengthen and ensure long-term sustainability of our marine real estate, our expertise and our operational capabilities.

The inaugural RPIC Marine Infrastructure National Workshop will be hosted at the Hotel Montreal Marriott Chateau Champlain, conveniently located in the heart of downtown Montreal.

The organizing committee is very pleased to present this Workshop and we hope you will join us to contribute to the success of the first RPIC Marine Infrastructure National Workshop.
